Wimpy's Wise Words

PRESIDENTS ROUND UP      24th September

I would like to thank you all for your vote regarding the Rationalisation Pilot Scheme, and I can say that this club has supported this with a two third majority of the club members, and I have registered our Yes vote. Now we wait and see how the Zone will vote and what will come of this exercise.
Another topic I would ask you all to be aware of is the Drakes Community money that is made available when you purchase from Drakes. If you do not have a key tag, please see our Secretary Jenny and she will only to happy to give you one, also should you forget yours please inform the staff that you would like to use the tag behind the counter. This quarter we received a credit of $113 which we can use for supplies in coming events, so please try and get in the habit of using these key tags.
As a club I believe we need to ask ourselves, are we operating at our fullest potential or just sitting back and hoping for the best. As you would have seen, I sent you all an email with a copy of the Club Health Check and I would ask you all to take the time and take a look at this and fill it out. You would probably realise by now that I would like all members start thinking of membership and how we can gain potential members.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.

Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
