It was really great to catch up with David Altmann again and he couldn’t resist stirring Jack and myself for being Port supporters. His talk on the current building regulations was very interesting but it has confirmed that there is a lot of red tape involved even before you start to build a house.

Roxanne gave a brief report on the Fit for Purpose weekend in Sydney.   It is a good feeling that we are going to be given the tools to help us make our Club better - even though we are very good already!

Last Tuesday’s Board meeting was a long one - 11pm yikes!! We did have a lot to discuss and make decisions on.

Roxanne expanded on her report from the Fit For Purpose weekend and presented our Club’s Membership Engagement and Growth Analysis under the headings of Strengths, Areas for Improvement, Emerging Trends, Areas of Concern, Action Items. All thought provoking and a lot of things doable without changing how we do things that much.

Before Roxanne went to the Fit for Purpose weekend She with Robin and myself went through our Club ByLaws. Robin had noticed that some changes should be made.  This was discussed by Board and these changes will be brought up at a dinner meeting for Club membership to vote upon them.

The three of us also discussed the setting of our Club’s goals prior to the meeting and these were agreed to by the Board. These goals go towards a Club Excellence Award (Rotary Citation).

Rob Walters will approach the RSL to ask if we can make our visit on Wednesday, November 6th a Hat Night for Mental Health. We will keep you informed.

Some members are having difficulty hearing and seeing our guest speakers. It was decided that we would try some things to fix the problem. Your feedback will be appreciated.

Thought for the week from Thomas A Edison

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is aways to try just one more time.” - Reflects the determination and commitment in Rotary’s pursuit of community service and global change

ShelterBox Bronze Award

Congratulations to Rotary Club of Murray Bridge on being a 2024 ShelterBox Bronze Champion Award winner!

The Board of ShelterBox Australia and our wider ShelterBox community would like to congratulate you for ensuring funds are available to shelter families in need as soon as a disaster happens.

We were thrilled to see so many Rotarians and Rotary Clubs join us at the 2024 ShelterBox Champion Awards Night last week and to hear Alex Youlten convey how important the partnership between Rotary and ShelterBox is.

This year we were honoured to award 126 Rotary Clubs around Australia with ShelterBox Champion Awards - with 4 Rotary Clubs receiving a Gold Champion Award, 6 Rotary Clubs receiving a Silver Award and a further 118 Rotary Clubs receiving a Bronze Award.

The ShelterBox Champion Awards celebrates the dedication and commitment of Rotary Clubs that make regular annual donations enabling ShelterBox to be disaster-ready. Your donations allow ShelterBox to deploy aid at a moments notice when homes are destroyed, families have to flee and entire communities are ravaged.

The Rotary Foundation is our Foundation and I encourage you to consider making regular donations to support the good work.
One way of support is to become a Centurion and donate $100 per year to the Foundation.
If you would like more information regarding supporting the Foundation, please ask me - Robin

Below is an email I recently received outlining the good work our Foundation carries out.

Thank you for giving to The Rotary Foundation!

Together, with your support, we funded 1,285 global grants, 485 district grants, and 105 disaster response grants in 2023-24. Donors like you, Robin, make this work possible. Your generosity helped us raise more than US$417 million for our Foundation, which will continue to help communities around the world thrive through life-changing, sustainable projects.

Thanks to you, Rotary members can continue to work toward solving some of the world’s most complex problems, such as improving people’s health, supporting high-quality education, protecting the environment, and aiding communities affected by disasters. We accomplish this while remaining committed to eradicating polio to make sure children are free forever from its devastating effects. With your support, we can continue to unite and take action to create lasting change.

Your donations make Doing Good in the World possible. Thank you, Robin, for strengthening your own community and communities everywhere.

Sincerely,
The Rotary Foundation

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
