Vision of IslandsCan you help restore sight to peoples in our neighbouring Pacific nations? Vision of Islands is a non-profit volunteer eye surgical & clinical team who have been travelling to these areas since 1996 providing cataract removal for South Sea Islanders (or all ages) who would otherwise be blind. To date the team, led by ophthalmologist Dr John Willoughby OAM, has worked in Tonga and Tuvalu. The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge seeks financial support to allow Dr Willoughby and his team to continue and extend this work. Vision of Islands operates under the direction of the Ministry of Health of each participating country. Their medical outreach team trains the local medical staff in patient care. They provide medical and teaching equipment training local staff in their use, as well as extending specialist eye services to remote areas where people lack specialist services because of remoteness. Dr Willoughby provides his surgical skills free of charge. But there are huge ongoing overheads like travel costs, medical equipment, transport and mobile facilities to reach remote clinics. CAN YOU HELP? Your contribution is tax deductible. You have the option of claiming this if you wish. You will also be acknowledged by Vision of Islands as a Supporting Donor |
