Mens Kitchen? The information below was received by me and I thought "could this be an idea for Murray Bridge"? Perhaps a committee could investigate. Robin LeGallez Hi all, I’m Bill Winslow of the Rotary Club of St Peters and the Community Chair for our Club this year. We have started working on a Men’s Kitchen to help older guys learn to cook as well as giving them some social connections. I would be most appreciative if you could forward this email to your club President for distribution to your Community Committee or equivalent. We are in the process of recruiting men who’d like to participate and would appreciate your help on this. Any of your members who’d like to help with this project are welcome to contact me. We’ve been granted free access to the Payneham Community Centre kitchen for this purpose and have already engaged a qualified chef to run the demonstrations. Bill Winslow Tel: 0419 039 376 Aims/Objectives To set up a Men’s Kitchen for men in their 50 to 60 plus primarily from our LGA. (According to data from Mens Health and Lifestyle information.there is a definite need for older men to have an opportunity to pick up cooking skills in a friendly, informal social environment.) 1a To teach basic cooking, shopping and food handling skills for personal use to a small group of a maximum of 10 men. 1b. To provide the opportunity for participants to make new friendships and interests. (Lifestyle changes in this age group have seen that many men, as usually the major wage earner, have had little involvement in making a meal. And many men over 60, who might now be without a partner, are lonely and have few opportunities to make new friendships. 1c To operate the kitchen as a pilot project over 10 months of the year with one session per month. 1c To open to any interested man within the age group who is able to pay for the sessions ($40 annual membership plus $20 a session.) 1d. Possibly financially support any interested person unable to pay. (The management group would consider options.) |
