MEETING REPORT

Three Murray Bridge Rotarians received their Paul Harris Fellowship medals at last nights Rotary Club of Murray Bridge meeting last night. This was for outstanding service to the local and international communities. In recognition of this our club donated $3,000 one thousand dollars for each to the Rotary Foundation for future project work in these areas. The Rotary Foundation makes funding available for Club and District projects. Jim Cundy, Lesley Murray and Jenny Alexander-Walters were presented their medalions and thanked by Rotary Club of Murray Bridge President Sue Foster. A current example of Rotary Foundation funding is the recently reported Solomon Islands project.

BREAD TAGS FOR WHEELCHAIRS

Paballo and Yolanda are the latest two recipients of wheelchairs we have funded. Paballo is thirteen years old and lives with cerebral palsy. His Mum was very emotional when his chair arrived. Yolanda lives in aged care in Vredendal in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

We’re Expanding

BIG NEWS! Due to our supporters’ amazing efforts at collecting bread tags and donating to our charity, we are now able to provide more wheelchairs. In addition to funding wheelchairs in South Africa through Bread tags for Wheelchairs, we are now also collaborating with Wheelchairs for Kids in WA. They build wheelchairs in Perth and ship them to countries around the world. Our first five wheelchairs have gone to children in Jordan.

ALICE SPRINGS ROTARY CLUB

See what Rotary Club of Alice Springs are doing within their community and how they display the world renowned Rotary Brand.
Their Orange shirts are very appropriate, totally resonates with the colours of the Outback landscape and it identifies them as a team within their community. The display on the back of the club shirt depicts “The access to Alice Springs from the South is through " The Gap" which the train line and also dry river creek bed go through too”
They have Rotary branded table cloths; banners; identifiable aprons for their BBQ’s. Rotary billboard depicting when they commenced. There are even some historical photo’s in this post that you will enjoy which also display the Rotary Brand (the wheel).
This Rotary Brand is a 100 year tradition and one we all should be very proud of, keep up your great work Alice Springs in showcasing this great volunteering organizing when you are out in your community.
Live in Alice Springs? Want to join Rotary? Want to have fun and fellowship whilst helping your community? Message the Rotary Club of Alice Springs club on Facebook they’d love to speak with you and get you involved.
We encourage you to follow this page and share these posts with family/friends. Engage via Facebook with a Rotary Club in your community.

New Look - Rotary "Safari"

image"Once Upon A Time" the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge held regular "Safaris". These were oportunities (for men) to travel across our state and enjoy fellowship in often remote locations.

As time and expectations have changed, the concept has been lost until now!

It has been suggested that we reinvent the original "Safari" concept into a more leisuely and comfortable experience within a few hours travelling of Murray Bridge.

Enter the new look "Rotary Safari"!
Suggested dates are Friday 17th till Sunday 19th September with those wishing to assist with the Rotary Health of The River Forum being able to stay on at either the Riverbend Caravan Park or Calperum Station.

A venue has been suggested by our Past President, Graham Coventry and is owned by a Renmark Rotarian, Brett Hein.

The Renmark Riverbend Caravan Park is adjacent to the Paringa Bridge and has a wide variety of accomodation options, walking trails and importantly a fire pit for communal gatherings. The river is fully stocked with fish simply waiting to be caught. There are numerous daily activities in the Riverland including the opportunity to visit Calperum Station.

September is popular with warmer weather being promised. Brett currently has available for the weekend, 4 x Deluxe Riverfront Cabins ($160 p/n for 2 people), 2 x Riverfront Cabins ($145 p/n for 2 people), Ensuite Cabins ($110 p/n for 2 people). There are plenty of powered caravan sites with 2 on the riverfront ($42 p/n for 2 people and others at $38 p/n).
Brett has indicated that there may be an additional "Rotary Club" discount applicable once numbers are known.

We can make our bookings direct with the Park, but first I would like an indication of the number of members and friends who may wish to enjoy a lot of fun in September.

Check out the park here https://riverbendrenmark.com.au/ or download the attached park map.

Please respond via email to mhcool@lm.net.au and I will liaise with the park regarding your accomodation booking.

Pith helmets are welcome but not necessary for our Safari.

9 REASON TO JOIN ROTARY

Nine Reasons to Join Rotary
1. Friendship: In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic human needs: the need for friendship and fellowship. It is one of two reasons why Rotary began in 1905.
2. Business Development: The second original reason for Rotary’s beginning is business development. Everyone needs to network. Rotary consists of a cross section of every business community. Its members come from all walks of life. Rotarians help each other and collectively help others.
3. Personal Growth and Development: Membership in Rotary continues one’s growth and education in human relations and personal development.
4. Leadership Development: Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people. Serving in Rotary positions is like a college education. Leadership: - learning how to motivate, influence and lead leaders.
5. Citizenship in the Community: Membership in a Rotary club makes on a better community citizen. The average Rotary club consists of the most active citizens of any community.
6. Continuing Education: Each week at Rotary there is a program designed to keep one informed about what is going on in the community, nation, and world. Each meeting provides an opportunity to listen to different speakers and a variety of timely topics.
7. Fun: Rotary is fun, a lot of fun. Each meeting is fun. The club projects are fun. Social activities are fun. Serving others is fun.
8. Public Speaking Skills: Many individuals who joined Rotary were afraid to speak in public. Rotary develops confidence and skill in public communication and the opportunity to practice and perfect these skills.
9. Citizenship in the World: Every Rotarian wears a pin that says “Rotary International.” There are few places on the globe that do not have a Rotary club. Every Rotarian is welcome – even encouraged – to attend any of the 33,000 clubs in over 200 nations and geographical regions. This means instant friends in both one’s own community and in the world community.
These nine reasons came from the Keizer Rotary Club in Keizer, Oregon

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.

Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
