Well I hope you have all had, or are having a relaxing and enjoyable Easter Break. For Rob and myself we are glad the weather is going to be a bit cooler for a while - some rain would be very welcome.
Our speaker last week, Peter Schaefer gave us a lot of information about the Rotary Foundation. Although I had already listened and seen his presentation at District Assembly, hearing it again filled in some things I hadn’t remembered. Our Club donates to the Foundation every year and I know that we have some Centurions in our club - I am one of them as I really am in awe of what the Foundation achieves and wanted to contribute in a small way to helping the Foundation achieve its goals.
This coming Tuesday we will not only hear from Dr. Willoughby and his project “Vision of Islands” but we will be inducting some new members to our Club. We anticipate we will have a few guests attending the meeting, please make them feel welcome.
The following came through my Facebook Feed and it gave me food for thought:
Meliorism (n)
The quiet unwavering belief that the world, despite its flaws and struggles, can be made better through human effort, kindness and wisdom.
It is the soft glow of hope in the darkest moments, the faith that every act of goodness ripples outward, shaping a future brighter than the past.
Thank You Murray Bridge Rotary
The message below was received following our Club donation of $3500
G’day President Jenny and all at Murray Bridge Club
WOW!! 😊
I wanted to write to personally Thank You your Club for your recent generous donation!
FYI – this donation will indeed buy a full truck load of hay (32 bales) which equates to 19.2 Tonne – and that makes a MASSIVE difference, likely to 2 farmers and their livestock.
Keep an eye on our web page. We keep adding details of Trucks delivered plus some new photos here and there.
I have added your Club’s logo to our Web Page to officially recognise this amazing contribution.
Bags for Blokes was the topic presented this week at the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge by Dr Elizabeth Crawley pictured here with President Jenny Alexander Walters and Chairperson Penny Heighes. Elizabeth's children became alarmed at the number of homeless men they saw in Adelaide and were the trigger to together with her to start Bags for Blokes. They had seen a Van with laundry and washing machine near Vinnes and this developed a different understanding of homelessness. There appeared to be a gap in the services for men and boys so this is the support path they took. This started 5 years ago and they have now distributed over 400 bags and are looking for further support. The bags contain items like socks, jocks, drink bottle, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, towels, band aids, ponchos, antiseptic wipes, combs, shaving cream and razors. The Rotarians present promised to continue support. Its a great example of someone in the community taking Action. Well done the Crawley family. John Scarvelis
