The fantastic work of St Vincent de Paul Society presented by Coordinator Teresa Branch and Volunteer Robbie McGhee was enthusiastically received at the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge meeting on Tuesday night. Particularly in relation to Freds Van named after Fredrick Ozanam founder of the Vincent de Paul Society. Fred's Van was started nearly 30 years ago in the CBD of Adelaide and has grown to 8 service sites across Adelaide plus two regional sites in Port Lincoln and Port Pirie. The suburban and regional sites provide support to those in the community that are struggling, including families with children, unemployed, underemployed, isolated people and people struggling with mental health. The City Van serves the majority of homeless and transient clients. New member Lisa Sherry Foster chaired the meeting and President Gordon Schultz thanked them for their presentation.
Vale Graham Coventry
Graham Coventry - eulogy from a Rotary perspective.
Graham gave service above self through the programs of Rotary Clubs at Tumut, Casterton, Murray Bridge, Kununurra, and Renmark serving as President twice at Casterton, once at Murray Bridge and Renmark. Graham was recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Casterton.
Graham Coventry was a true, sincere and honest friend to many, and his passing saddened those with whom he came into contact over many years. Graham’s personality shone through the way he interacted with others as a family man, a friend, a Rotarian, a stock salesman, or selling tomatoes at the Leader Street Markets in Wayville. We will continue to remember a great gentleman, a good bloke, and a decent person who was a welcome part of our lives.
Graham epitomised the Rotarian 4 way test being truthful, fair, building goodwill, and benefiting others. He was an effective leader because he tapped into the skills and thoughts of others, using this to form alliances, strengthen teams, and actively involve others as equals. People felt safe with Graham’s direction and leadership, and were usually delighted to go along with suggestions and ideas from a person sharing a mischievous smile. The membership of the above named clubs probably all shared a growth spurt, with people wanting to be part of the excitement and responsibility of doing good for others in our world.
This day I am proud to convey the condolences for many, knowing that the news of the passing of Graham has sparked remembering great times spent with him, re-living the care, the love and shared good experiences in their lives. These feelings are not lost and will continue to help us see the world in a different way.
I convey the following message from the Rotary Club of Renmark;
“The Rotary Club of Renmark was shocked and saddened at the news of Graham’s passing. He was always involved in club events and stepped up to be president in the 2020/2021 year. His ideas were progressive and he always had the best interests of the club at heart.
Many members will remember his excitement when talking about Rotary and its history, especially to guests and newcomers to the club. The Rotary Club of Renmark offers thoughts and prayers to Judith and Graham’s family, and extends an invitation to them to join the club as guests in the future. He will be missed.” President Tom Copley.
Past District Governor Bob Cooper has asked that I convey his sincere condolences to Judith and family, and also to the many Rotarians who were part of Graham’s life.
I deliver the above brief messages, along with the floral tributes, and cards, to you Judith and your family, with the wish that you will be consoled to some extent at this sad time, knowing that many others were privileged to share time with a great person.
Composed from the input of many by Rotarian Sam Cozens.
