Meeting Report 3331President Lesley presided with the chair for the evening being Sam Cozens. Our speakers for the evening were the entrants in the national IAWARDS which are coordinated by the Australian Information Industry Association. The program has been offered at the MBHS as an after school activity for the last five years. IT Teacher at the Murray Bridge High School, Lachlan Dwyer introduced the students and allowed them to present their "pitch". Students Thomas, Jalal, Riley & Logan each outlined portions of the program. The boys identified a need in the community which is currently not being met. A lack of first aid training and points of contact for younger people was the genesis for their "App" named "Emergency Kid". After researching apps which are similar, they found the needs of Australian young people were not being met. Designing, coding, itentifying language which is appropriate and also protecting intelectual property are all skills that will set these young people on a path in IT development. Well done students Winning the Adelaide competition automatically allowed them to compete at the nationals. Sadly they did not win but received a merit award placing them in the top 5%. |
