What an exciting, energyfilled week our club members experienced this week:
Rotary Against Malaria - Malaria elimination brings social as well as economic return on the investment. This is why RAM is a vital Rotary project – supported by RAWCS. Dr Kerre Willsher presented vital facts, figures and information to the membership at the gathering last Tuesday.
Kiwanis 30th Birthday – Wednesday 19th Nov – I attended the 30th Anniversary of the Murray Bridge Kiwanis Club – their numbers have increased this year and their dedicated commitment to support children across the region is amazing. It was great to personally renew some friendships from the past
Bunnings update – Thursday 20th Nov – Sam, Liz, Julieanne and myself attended the Bunnings Information Update session. Activities coordinator Tash welcomed the large numbers representing a varied group of Service organisations from across the region and thanked us all for our commitment to presenting the BBQs on a regular basis. Safety Officer Kimberly outlined the safety requirements to be implemented at all future BBQs – some were stressed as 100% requirements and some were new ‘statements’ which are common sense but needed to be stated to ensure all helpers are on the same page with safety. Our Bunnings BBQ contacts will be circulating the latest ‘requirements’ in an email and these will be emailed to all those who attend the BBQ as well as having a ‘hard copy’ at the event as part of our set-up processes. We were able to confirm:
The Family Night BBQ on 4th December – 4-7pm – Jim has this event organised
The Family Night Trading Table on 4th Dec 4-7pm– Roxanne is looking for at least 1 more helper for this stall and some assistance with making some Christmas gifts from the kitchen or other gift ideas to have on the Trading Table. We are able to sell the Calendars (Jacquie organised) and Raffle Tickets - if any are left
Our club will be paid to conduct each of these activities on the night
RORP Committee meeting – Friday 21st Nov – Jenny A-W, Rob and I attended a Teams meeting Friday afternoon to cover the updates for playground removal and storages. Briefly:
The playground at the Lyell McEwin Hospital will be dismantled early in the new year – RC Gawler Light and Elizabeth to do the removal
Police Clearances are required by those dismantling the playground at LMH
Risk Assessments for dismantle are currently being updated – I am looking at this
Playgrounds are to be stored at RARE as is currently occurring
Signage, website and other promotional materials being organised
Morphettville Community Race Day – Saturday 22nd Nov – Special Thanks to those who attended the races on Saturday – it could only be described as an ‘Adventure’ – 25mm rain fell during the day and not only did the horses and riders have to contend with the difficult conditions, our ‘honorary Rotarian Jordan’ also had to contend with the water on the Remote-Control Car track throughout the car races. He did himself, the Race Club and Rotary proud with his ‘driving’ – the course had to be swept of 1-2cm of water between each heat before the next could be undertaken and the rain continued to fall throughout each race.
Rotary Calendars – Jacquie has sent an email to all members who have outstanding calendars to return them this Tuesday as she is looking to have any ‘unsold’ calendars available at the upcoming markets to ensure all are sold. Please remember to bring yours to the dinner on Tuesday
Volunteer sign up positions are still available for Wednesday 26th and Saturday 29th November – so check out the events page in Club Runner and add your name to a roster or ring Jacquie and add your name
Raffle tickets – are now quite limited – please organise your last-minute gifts or Christmas Stocking fillers before they sell out

Elizabeth Crawley’s Bags for Blokes Update – Now 516 bags. 5 bags from the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge were delivered to the Murray Bridge Police Station and received by Senior Sergeant David Brown (Police Officer of the Year 2025)
Meeting this week – we will have an Information Night and have the following topics listed:
hear from Rob and Jen Carey – to outline the newly formed Country Education Foundation (CEF)
Join us as our community comes together to Shout NO! to family and domestic violence.Take part in the march along the riverfront, hear from guest speakers and enjoy a free community BBQ cooked by the Mobilong Rotary Club. This annual event is held as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign calling for a future free from violence and discrimination.
Another 5 ‘Bags for Blokes’ have been completed. Elizabeth Crawley, the founder of Bags for Blokes, along with Malcolm, Jim and Penny from the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge delivered a further 5 bags to SAPOL. They were received by Senior Sergeant David Brown, SAPOL Officer of the year. This makes a total of 21 for Murray Bridge and a total of 516 overall.
On Wednesday 12th November, we were able to witness the unveiling of the anticipated Lymph scanner – a non-invasive, hand-held device that uses microwaves to measure the localized water content in skin, aiding in the early detection of lymphedema. It is particularly important after surgeries for breast, gynaecological or melanoma cancers. It can also be used to measure the effectiveness of treatments, by assessing the extent of swelling in specific areas like the face, neck or limbs. This is so important because early detection means early intervention. For the patients, it means fewer hospital visits, less discomfort, and a much better quality of life and it means local and regional patients don’t need to travel to Adelaide for care. The purchase of the device was a combined effort of The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge, The Rotary Club of Mobilong, Murray Bridge Lions, Murray Bridge City Lions and the hospital Sunshine Volunteers.

The Murray Bridge Rotary Club were approached by a Year 9 student from Unity College requesting support with a passion project – a part of the yr 9 Curriculum.
The support required was the use of the Rotary Club BBQ trailer to cook a sausage sizzle to serve to participants in a bike-athon.
On Wednesday 5th November, Jim Cundy took the BBQ trailer to the Imperial Football Oval where the event was being held. He was ably assisted by Sam and Elizabeth Cozens and Paul Willoughby.
The Passion Project was about the Zahra Foundation – supporters of Women needing help following a domestic violence event. The student gave a very inspiring speech about the impact of domestic violence. A guest speaker from the Zahra Foundation was also present and gave a brief talk.
People could contribute to the Zahra Foundation through various activities on the day, namely a lolly jar count, raffle and donations for the sausage sizzle.
This student showed great initiative in organizing the event and is hoping to raise $5000 for the Foundation. Donations are being accepted online until the end of December.
The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge was proud to support this event.
