There was a lot of conversation during the Committee meetings last Tuesday, some Committees had short meetings which gave them time to socialise.
It was good to see John Whimpress back from his travels looking rested. John went to a Rotary meeting in Juneau, Alaska and he presented the Club with our banner which was recipricated.
Roxanne has flown to Sydney to attend the Fit for Purpose conference. She is going to return to us with her head full of ideas. I look forward to hearing all about this in full. Roxanne will briefly update members on November 12th.
Calendar sales are still going well. I have already handed in 8 slips out of my 10. Guess what family is getting as part of their Christmas present? Actually my grandson who is an apprentice boiler maker loved the calendar and is going to put it up in his work station.
I am looking forward to this coming Tuesday’s speaker David Altmann. David was President of our Club 2018-2019 and I was Secretary in his year. Sadly he had to resign from our Club due to work commitments. It will be good to catch up with him.
I encourage members to attend the RARE working Bee on Sunday, November 10th. If you can help don’t forget to register.
Thought for the week:
Franklin D. Roosevelt: "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." - Reflects the Rotary focus on helping those less fortunate and promoting fairness and equity.
The Rotary Foundation is our Foundation and I encourage you to consider making regular donations to support the good work.
One way of support is to become a Centurion and donate $100 per year to the Foundation.
If you would like more information regarding supporting the Foundation, please ask me - Robin
Below is an email I recently received outlining the good work our Foundation carries out.
Thank you for giving to The Rotary Foundation!
Together, with your support, we funded 1,285 global grants, 485 district grants, and 105 disaster response grants in 2023-24. Donors like you, Robin, make this work possible. Your generosity helped us raise more than US$417 million for our Foundation, which will continue to help communities around the world thrive through life-changing, sustainable projects.
Thanks to you, Rotary members can continue to work toward solving some of the world’s most complex problems, such as improving people’s health, supporting high-quality education, protecting the environment, and aiding communities affected by disasters. We accomplish this while remaining committed to eradicating polio to make sure children are free forever from its devastating effects. With your support, we can continue to unite and take action to create lasting change.
Your donations make Doing Good in the World possible. Thank you, Robin, for strengthening your own community and communities everywhere.
Sincerely, The Rotary Foundation

Murraylands Multicultural Network
Guest speaker at Tuesday's Rotary Club of Murray Bridge meeting was Rotarian John Scarvelis presenting on the Murraylands Multicultural Network's activities, some historical, and some from the last year. The role of the Network is to support new settlers to the Murraylands, to make them feel welcome, to meet regularly, to find ways to assist with settlement, organise events, training and meaningful activities so that they can become part of our community and thrive. The Network does so under the auspices of the Australian Migrant Resource Centre and in partnership with the Rural City of Murray Bridge, Rotary, employers, and other interested parties. It is made up from new settlers representing their ethnic groups, local staff from AMRC and volunteers from the community. Current chairman is Noel Blythe who has taken this role after John Scarvelis stepped down at the AGM after many years of service. Merilyn Schultz is Deputy Chair, Murraylands AMRC manager Heather Muirhead acts in a secretarial role and Joy Goodridge treasurer. Rotarian Stephen Walker now represents Rotary in the MMN. The Network has become a very successful model for resettlement and integration in regional areas. Development of the regions has strategic benefits in Australia going forward. John Scarvelis.
