Wimpy's Weekly Waffle!

I attended the Presidents meeting for Area 10 on Thursday night and a couple of items did come up, members should have a look at E learning as this can be a valuable to Tailem Bend are keen to have an involvement with youth exchange, Stirling have a small acreage field day coming up, Onkaparinga are looking at setting up a satellite club in the APY lands. The convention in Melbourne 27-31 May 2023 also got a mention. As in the past it was suggested that we all clubs in Area 10 create an Area Community project and I will be asking members if they have any thoughts regarding this over the coming month. It was a good opportunity to see what other clubs have done or intend to and to catch up with our Presidents in our area.
In this edition of Down Under I would like you all to read articles on pages 38 and 44 .
I would like to inform members that our meeting on the 26th July will now be at the Indian restaurant the Bombay Beat as the golf club have a busy week with their ladies tournament. I would like to have an indication as to how many members will be attending as not to have to many seats booked.

ALLKIDS SPONSOR

It gives me great pleasure to send you your 2022 AllKids sponsor child update for Narak, Naro and Sreyka.

I am pleased to report that the covid pandemic is now very quiet in Cambodia and AllKids currently have 1,255 children attending programs across our four centres and the children are also attending normal classes at public school

We still have many young children that do not have sponsors so if you know someone that may be interested or you would like to sponsor another child, please contact me directly and I’ll choose a child who will benefit greatly from your support.

On behalf of Narak, Naro, Sreyka, their parents, and the staff at AllKids, I would love to pass on my very sincere thanks for your very generous support.

Providing one child with education won’t change the world but it will change the world for that child.

 Kindest Regards, Sarun

AllKids Sponsor Liaison Officer

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL

The Rotary Foundation has raised more than $15 million in relief contributions to aid Ukrainians affected by the war. And Rotary members worldwide have jumped to help in relief efforts as well— donating over $15 million in aid, gathering and sending critical medical supplies, repurposing logistics networks to source housing, and much more.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.

Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
