Meeting Report 3371
Sallee Shepard a student at Unity College in Murray Bridge was our special guest on our Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Zoom meeting this week. She is part of the Youth Advisory Committee for the Rural City of Murray Bridge. It takes someone special to take on a business venture at the age of 13 years. She is passionate about Cup Cakes so she took this on as a business, promoted it on a website, and now has 600 on her platform. She finds facebook a good way to spread her message and with family and friends supporting her is doing well. She now is in year 12 and needs to focus on study. Her other passion is the MB Youth Council with a focus on Youth leadership. The group organised the Jaws of the Murray Event in summer with eating or floating in the River watching Jaws the Movie. She was a Young Achiever Award finalist supported by Kookaburra Homes and gave the Australia Day Awards Address last year. Look for her on facebook and the Council website.
FoodBank
Foodbank in Murray Bridge is now operational and is supported by the three Rotary Clubs in the Murraylands. Murray Bridge, Mobilong, and Tailem Bend. Its on Adelaide Road, well signposted ready to help those in need. Referals come through local service providers.
Mallee Emu Wrens at Ngarkat Conservation Park
On Friday 28th August 2020, Rotarians from Murray Bridge travelled to the Ngarkat Conservation Park which is located east of Keith in the SE of our State.
The purpose of the visit was to look at a building located in the Park, with the view to upgrading for use as a base camp for further research into establishing a sustainable population of mallee emu wrens within the Park.
Robin LeGallez, Jack Redden, John Scarvelis, Andrew Heard, Peter Phillips and Sam Cozens negotiated a very sandy track into the Park, and met with Park Officials Ryan Hamood and Chris Hedger. The meeting discussion focussed upon how the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge could form a joint venture with Parks and Wildlife, and progress the project to re-locate a sustainable population of mallee emu wrens from Victoria into the Ngarkat Park. Part of this consideration is to upgrade the shed facility on the Park to be used as a base camp.
