It’s good to see our members up and about this week – Ron Jericho is out of hospital and taking it easy at home and it was good to see Kevin Dalton at the opening of the Rotary Art Show – we hope your journeys returning to full health are on the way forward – so take it easy for awhile

It is only 1 week to the Pioneer Adventure Day at Old Tailem Town. Thanks to all members who are volunteering to assist with a range of activities on the day or in the days leading up to the event. Special thanks to members who have delivered goods for the pantry packs we are assembling for farming families. I know your donations will be appreciated by the families receiving them on the day.

In conjunction with Angela Thorley of the RC Tailem Bend, we will be having a Biscuit-Baking-day on Thursday 30th April at the Murray Bridge Showgrounds Kitchen. The packs of home-made biscuits will supplement the meals being packaged for Pantry Packs to be given to farming families who attend on the day. I have been trialling suitable recipes in fitting with the Pioneer Village at Old Tailem Town and will be shopping for the ingredients. How many packets of biscuits should we make?

Jim has been busy coordinating the team of Rotary Clubs who are catering on the day. It has been a daunting task for him – with numbers still not confirmed, so it’s hard to do the ordering of foods to be cooked on the day. I know the central team appreciates his efforts as do I at the local level.

Jim and his team have again been busy preparing Bags for Blokes for distribution by Elizabeth Crawley – this week they packed another 9 bags which were then delivered to Murray Bridge Community Centre. This takes our total to 40 bags supplied to men in the local area.

Thursday saw club members catering for the MBHS ‘Mary Poppins’ Rehearsal Lunch – greatly appreciated by the students and staff as they gave up days of the school holidays as part of their rehearsal programme, ensuring they  will present a professional theatrical production early in June

Attending the ANZAC Day Dawn Service was a most rewarding event – Sam and Liz presented the Club wreath and the crowd was much larger than in previous years.

The Rotary Art Show had its opening Sunday afternoon and is an amazing display of artwork this year. Congratulations to all winners and thanks to the volunteers from both Rotary Clubs for all the tireless work. Make sure you plan a visit and do consider taking friends and family members for a visit

Secretary Julieanne has been busy securing seats for club members to attend our social event – Murray Bridge Cabaret Band Festival at the Bridges Event Centre on Saturday 30th May commencing at 6-30pm. There are 4 bands appearing this year and just a few seats left at the 3 tables we have booked so please consider booking soon

Dates to remember:

  • Club Leaders Learning Seminar – (formerly District Assembly) - Sunday May 31st at St Michaels College
  • Our regular weekly gathering on Tuesday evening will see Samara O’Toole give her presentation on The Station where she is the Youth Development Officer with the Rural City of Murray Bridge. Thanks John for advertising this event on Facebook and let’s hope we have a few visitors for the evening.

Just a thought – check out what Suellen achieved at the Highland Shopping Centre in Melbourne where she checked out her luck as a ‘human-claw’ where she collected an amazing 3.2kg lollies – what a way to spend your holiday time
