Meeting Report 3322

Rotary District Governor Tim Klar and his wife Bronwyn visited the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge last night. Tim met with the Murray Bridge Board earlier in the afternoon. He outlined the 5 Core Values of Rotary and associated goals;
Service -expanding our reach in the community,
Fellowship-individual efforts combined enhancing participant engagement, Diversity- unifying people and inclusion, Integrity- being accountable, and Leadership- Global and local increasing our impact. Three District 9520 presentations were made to the Club for their work in 2018-9. Best International project Timor Leste joint winners with Stirling and Mt Barker, Best Webpage in District 9520, and Best Environmental Project with the Mallee Emu Wren Survival Program in partnership with Monarto Zoo and Dept for the Environment researchers. He also spoke about our historic relationship with the UN started 75 years ago, increasing our ability to adapt, and signature projects for the last year of District 9520. His final message was Dream Big, Set Goals and Take Action. Bronwyn Klar spoke about her interest in Shelterbox which Rotarian's use to distribute aid around the world in emergency situations. It's the 20th year of the Shelter Box Project in partnership with Rotary International and it has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. There are Refugee Camps in South Sudan with Shelterbox currently and in Syria their are 5 million people in Shelterbox cluster units.

Igniting memories of a story that millions of Australians can relate to, Michaela Burger pays tribute to her Greek migrant family and hard-working, fun loving larrikin father Luke who defied all odds and rose above his circumstances.

From early morning deliveries for the family bakery at age seven, down opal mines in Coober Pedy at age 16 and opening a chain of discount supermarkets in Adelaide, Luke’s road was not one for the faint-hearted.

Featuring original songs and live band, including piano and bouzouki, Michaela tells her family story with poignancy and comical aplomb.
