What an amazing week it has been – let’s start at last Tuesday’s meeting. Bill Marles and Tina Squires each outlining different aspects of the Pioneer Adventure Day at Old Tailem Town on Sunday 3rd May. Put this date in your diaries. It looks like an awesome day – giving to the farmers and their families – families who give of their talents to us every day through food/grain/animal production – allowing us to put food on our tables – now we get to show our appreciation and give a little back. Bill has so many ideas and the information to be able to source the $$ needed to bring the vision to fruition and Tina and Danny who have volunteered their venue to make it happen. The planning team has much to do in the weeks ahead but here are some ways you can help in the meantime
Checkout the ideas list left on the tables last week and get further contacts, details to Bill or myself so we can follow up and have the best day of planned activities
Do you shop at Drakes? Are you collecting the Sox giveaway? Know of a friend who does shop there and has been collecting the sox? These will be a great idea to include on the Male and Teenage care packs
Do you shop at Woolies? Collecting the packs of ‘bricks’? these will be great inclusions in the younger children’s packs
Bring these along to any weekly gathering and we will continue to pack these items as they are received
Tina has also indicated she is short on Toothpaste – for the care Packs – any size, any brand
Thanks to those of you who have rung with other ideas to include on the day – I have noted them in my planning docs and will follow up on them all as the days progress – you amaze me with your ideas
Jenny Alexander-Walters and her team have the Awareness Night and Showcase all organised for Tuesday. Have you checked with your guests that they are still able to attend? It’s not too late to have some guests just arrive – we can make them welcome and assist in getting to know them and their interests in volunteering
Today I had the pleasure of attending the Service Clubs Association of SA Community Service Awards for 2025 presentation at Auchendarroch House, Mt Barker. Wayne and I were joined by Simon & Lyn, Sam & Liz, Julieanne and Marie-louise Lees, and Peter & Lisanne Jarvis at our table for an enjoyable meal and sharing in the special awards. Our Club had submitted 5 nominations in a variety of categories and were recognised with the following:
Aged Care and Carers Expo – Winner Community Event Award
Elizabeth Crawley’s Bags for Blokes – Runner-up Social Inclusion Award
Peter Jarvis – Winner Heide Taylor Award
Putt-Putt Golf for Shelter Box – Nominee for Team Award
Frank Martino – Nominee for Heide Taylor Award
This year, the organising committee were able to distribute funds to Nominees, Runner-Up and Winners in ALL CATEGORIES – this is extra special for all our nominees, runner-up and winners. More on this at the next gathering
Finally, a very special Birthday to celebrate – Rotary turns 121 on Monday 23rd February, so celebrate and let your world know
