It was really heartening to see that we had some guests at Tuesday’s meeting who were also guests at our Rotary Information Night. They seemed to enjoy themselves and we hope to see them at our meeting in a fortnight when we hear about “living without fingerprints”.
I do have to admit that all the information that was given to us about Global Grants was hard to take in. We have access to a copy of the slide show if anyone needs to go through it again. Another topic that requires discussion is the Rotary Overseas Relocated Playgrounds project in South Australia, currently managed by the Rotary Club of Mount Barker. I’m hoping that the individual Committees will discuss this on Tuesday and report back to Board.
We do have a busy few weeks with the Swap Meet next weekend and Gemma Sisia’s visit next Month. Plans are well in hand for both these fundraising events.
Thought for the week: “Rotary is not just about giving money; it is about giving our time, talents and hearts to make a meaningful difference.” Ron Burton R.I. President 2013/14
Global Grants
Rotary Global Grants was our focus this week with the District Chair of the Rotary Foundation Doug Layng. Doug was Past District Governor 2015-16 and is currently Chair of the Youth Options Board. Rotary has seven Areas of focus in considering it's projects and Grants. Global Grants are required to have the capacity to be maintained locally in the country overseas and to serve their local communities needs. Rotary's Seven Areas of Focus are: Peacebuilding and conflict resolution,
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
