Another week has come and gone it seems the closer to Christmas it gets the quicker they go.
A great night on Tuesday night with the Calperum students' presentation, they did themselves and parents proud. It’s great to see young people having confidence in speaking so well in public. Thanks to Roxanne and Simon for all their effort and to everyone concerned with the camp.
A busy weekend coming up with the Place of Courage Launch on Friday at Sturt Reserve, the Domestic Violence march in Adelaide on Saturday, and BBQ at the Sixth Street Market on Sunday. On Monday we have the Murray Bridge High School year twelve presentations.
On Tuesday you have a chance to catch your breath before we meet at Avoca Dell for the combined meeting with Mobilong for a Pizza and Putt Putt night to raise money for Shelter Box with a guest appearance by our Area Governor Tim Klar. We look forward to the night of competition.
Best wishes to Jacquie Best and Robin LeGallez who are recovering at the moment.
That’s all from me see you all Wednesday night at Avoca Dell.

Calperum Leadership Camp

The year 6 students from Murraylands Primary Schools who went on the Rotary Environmental Calperum Camp reported to the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge members how they enjoyed the Camp. There were two students from each school so most of them did not know each other which is part of the plan. Ten students went with 9 Rotarians and some of the comments were priceless. They learnt from Aboriginal artist Daniel Giles that art should be reflective of themselves and their identity. Learn who you are and how to deal with others. Valuable life skills and leadership. How to be a better person, an amazing experience they said. They even enjoyed helping with chores. Parents said their were notable changes since the camp particularly with confidence. The parents enjoyed the daily facebook reports from the camp making them feel more at ease. The Camp was funded by a Rotary District Grant and sponsorships from Flinders University, GIA Insurance, Community Brocker Network, Impress Printing Murray Bridge, Bowhill Engineering, and BCF. This is part of the Rotary Assisting Local Youth Program of the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge and can lead to other connecting projects for students as they go in to High School like RYLA, RYPEN, One and All Tall Ships Project, Youth Exchange and the Rotary Science Experience. Music Award - MB High School

The Murray Bridge High School hosted the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge on Tuesday evening with the School Council in appreciation of the Rotary Music Bursary awarded this year to Year 10 Music Student Drew Bettcher. The Rotary Club has had a long association with the school in music donating $10,000 to building the Music Suite in the early 2000's, donating instruments, and tuition as part of a Music Bursary. Drew will be putting the $1000 received for the Bursary towards a laptop which will enable him to mix music programs to continue his music studies. It's part of the Club's Rotary Assisting Local Youth program. He entertained the audience along with fellow students Cooper Clark, Kiara Parkinson, Vocalists Relryl Pangpang, Siena Fountain Barr and supported by Music Teacher Blake Ascione. The Year 10's are taught by Jack Love. Coordinator Creative Design Choo Lee Long who has a portfolio of seven subjects to oversee including Music introduced the students.
Murray Bridge High School Principal Ruth Mussger thanked Rotary and explained the cultural significance of the space in the Sturt Building connecting with the River Murray and the Ngarindjerri Totems designed by the Year 9 Technical Studies students. Ruth has been reappointed MBHS principal till 2029 a well deserved appointment. Congratulations Ruth.
