I hope everyone has survived the heat and enjoying the cooler weather. Last weeks meeting was a buzz of conversation as the Committees discussed their business. It is good to hear that the work at Monarto Safari Park is starting up once again. It will be good to see this new area finished and full of native animals. Maybe once it is finished we can organise a Club trip to see it.
Looking forward to hearing Elaine Bensted speak this coming Tuesday.
Its been a quiet week. Rob Walters has put some extra battery operated lights in the Rotary shed. They come on automatically, in the dark as they are movement sensitive. That way you can see where the main light switches are. Hopefully this will help to reduce the danger of injuries. It is very important to keep the walkway in the shed free of obstacles to prevent injuries. The shed is rarely used at night and it is easy to forget where the switches are. Liz Cozens cut her leg when going into the shed at night. Liz, I am glad to hear that you are keeping off the leg and Sam is doing the cooking and housework.
Thought for the week from Winston Churchill: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”This directly echoes the philosophy of selfless giving and service above self. Winston Churchill was a member of the Rotary Club of London, UK
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
