Meeting Report

New Rotarian Julianne Sissman presented her Who Am I talk at our weekly Rotary Dinner at the Golf Club on Tuesday evening. Chairperson Lesley Murray introduced Julieanne as part of the Coonalpyn/ Coomandook farming community and now in the Riverglades community in Murray Bridge East. She was born in Tailem Bend, brought up in Coonalpyn and farmed with her husband David at Coomandook. They had two children. In those early days Coonalpyn had 100 students at the school, three rural stock agencies, a resident butcher, baker, three roadhouses, saleyards for farm stock, E&WS, Highways Depot, and ETSA plus the hotel. She enjoyed rabbit trapping as a youngster and became part of a welcoming community who took care of each other. She played tennis, played netball, became a long term umpire serving for over 40years and administrated in an executive role in the Mallee Association. She also joined the CWA with David's mother and still attends. The farm had the LeGallez family as neighbours and grew sheep and fat lambs as well as cropping. She spent 11 years as an ambulance volunteer, taught first Aid to Year 10 students at Coomandook School, completed Certificate 3 in Aged Care working in that area for 2 years, then Certificate 4 in Leisure & Lifestyle incorporating those skills at the Tailem Bend Hospital and Aged Care facility. She now enjoys the Murray Bridge Bushwalking Group on Fridays, is involved in the University of the third Age in Murray Bridge, volunteers at the Murray Bridge North Primary School Library, participates in the MB Embroidary and Craft Groups, and is part of the Riverglades Irrigation Trust as a Meter Reader. She has recently joined Rotary and enjoying the comaradere and projects serving the community.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.
Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
