Rotary Meeting 3379 Time: Oct 20, 2020 06:00 PM Adelaide
The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge participated in a Combined Service Clubs Dinner at the Murray Bridge Golf Club last night. Other participants included Adelaide Hills Inner Wheel, Mobilong Inner Wheel, The Lions Club of Murray Bridge, City Lions, the organisers of the event Soropotmists International, Rotary Club of Mobilong, Rotary Club of Tailem Bend, Habitat for Humanity, AC Care and the Rural City of Murray Bridge. The point of interest was the Studio Purpose Project which aims at addressing a shortage of safe accommodation for young people who are at risk of being homeless. Once complete, Studio Purpose is about much more than a warm bed and welcoming space. It will also work with youth to provide practical support required for success. Focuss will be on their health and well being, access to education, training and development, and their connection and participation with their local community short and long term. The longer term will focus on their capacity to live safely and securely through family reunification, private rental arrangements or other independant housing options. AC Care is the project leader, Habitat for Humanity SA will lead the construction phase, other partners include Headspace, SA Housing, Rotary, the Rural City of Murray Bridge, other service clubs and the on going support of the community is vital. The $100,000 initial target has been raised and will need another figure of similar amount to take it to the next level. Approval for the building is currently with the Council. The model will be expanded pending on evaluation.
Murray Bridge Pool Reopening
The Minister for Sport and Recreation the Hon Corey Wingard with the Mayor of the Rural City of Murray Bridge openned the upgraded Murray Bridge Swimming Centre today. The weather held off and the heated water encouraged swimmers. The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge cooked about 450 burgers and sausage meals supplied free by the Rural City of Murray Bridge. Federal member Tony Pasin and State member rep for Adrian Pederick Patrick Obrien, Coorong Mayor Paul Simmons attended along with councilors, staff and the public also participated. Next weeks weather looks encouraging for using the Centre and the start of the summer season.
