CATHERINE HAMLIN FISTULA FOUNDATION

Dear Roxanne and Rotarians,

This year was a year of tremendous success at Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia. In the twelve months from July 2020 to June 2021, 1,508 surgeries were performed at Hamlin’s six fistula hospitals. That’s 1,508 women’s lives restored.

Dr Catherine Hamlin’s legacy remains at the core of everything we do. Catherine’s vision for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia to be run and led by Ethiopians, for Ethiopians, continues to serve our hospitals and the women of Ethiopia well.

Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported Hamlin so far this year. Because of you, our team is treating more women who are able to return home healed and with hope.

Record Treatment Impact at Hamlin - Made possible by you

Treatment results so far this year are very encouraging. Hamlin’s clinical team continues to meet and exceed all treatment targets as momentum to eradicate fistula from Ethiopia once and for all gains pace.

Hamlin’s surgical team operated on 1,508 women from July 2020 to June 2021.

This morning I thought I’d view progress of the new RCMB Playground construction currently underway at Long Island Reserve, and also the Narooma Wetlands walking trail entrance.

Such a serene and beautiful location which really showcases the stunning Murray River.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
