Looking forward to Tuesdays meeting “First Responders App” with our speaker Alan Howard-Jones joining us from the Rotary Club of Modbury Golden Grove. The Rotary First Responder Mobile App project provides frontline emergency personnel (such as CFS, MFS, and SES) with real-time, evidence-informed guidance during high-risk calls involving animals—from road crashes to bushfires. One of my previous learning paths involved 11 years in the emergency services as a fiery/ station officer in the MFS Berri, I can really appreciate the need for this information during emergency situations e.g. house fires, vehicle accidents.
I have just spent last Monday to Friday at Calperum Station with Health of the River Ecology in Action program. We had 17 High School Students attend this year, with 7 Rotarians supporting the program and assisting the Calperum team providing the education program. The students had a great experience, along with a good look around the Calperum Mallee & Water ways, their learning experience was well received with all students enjoying every part of their time in the bush. We will hear more about this years program, once the program releases its final update.

Thank you to our Rotary Club of Murray Bridge team, it was an interesting task to start and with all the expertise of our helpers we managed to be finished & on our way home by lunch time.

Rtn. Jim Cundy & his trusty team of helpers providing plenty of food for the Rockleigh Progress Association, “Rockleigh 105 Gravel Fest” competitors finding their way through the amazing hills of Rockleigh. The track tested a few, 105, 65, and 45 km along rugged, steep scenic roads and tracks: culminating at the Monarto Sporting Complex. The 13th year and Jim has volunteered for nearly all those years, once wearing the Rockleigh CFS Support Group cap, this year at the BBQ proudly wearing the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge uniform. The event supporting the community of Rockleigh through the Rockleigh Progress Association, 300 rolls, lord knows how many tomatoes, lettuce, cheese slices there seemed to be a tonne of chicken fillets, bags of sliced beef all heartily consumed by hungry riders.
Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Environmental Youth Program held our Meet & Greet, Pres. Simon assisted with his team of Rotary support crew gathered at Long Island Reserve to introduce ourselves to this year’s participants. This is the 4th year we of our program, we meet with the attending Students along with their family to discuss the program & provide them a hearty lunch. Attending we had 8 Rotarians including our new Rtn. Brayden George, 11 of the 14 students along with their 27 family members, in total 46 attending. Our Rotary team interview all the students answering any questions and ensuring they are looking forward to the event. Local Primary Schools involved: Callington Primary, Coomandook Area, Jervois Primary, Mannum Community College, Mypolonga Primary, Swan Reach Area and Unity College Murray Bridge.
Sunday 6th September “Bunnings BBQ”, we all had a great time spending Father’s Day at Bunnings & looking after the hungry customers supporting our Rotary Club of Murray Bridge and assisting us with funds we put back into the community. Weather was very kind to us, along with the friendly faces we see throughout the day. President Simon also received in support of our Youth Program some well appreciated goods donated by Bunnings, “Bunnings – straw hat, water bottle, Gloves, head torch & carry bag”.
Our Secretary Rtn. Julieanne Sissman has been busy last week with the Kingston weaving project she is helping with at Lobethal, pictured is Julieanne with her friend Jan. The weaving workshops are taking place across SA with a focus on the Limestone coast region, open to people of all ages and abilities. Participants learn traditional First Nations weaving techniques and create woven pieces for the external covering of the sculptures. Past workshops have taken place in Adelaide, Kingston, Murray Bridge and Lobethal.
