It was great to see and hear from the students who went to Calperum last tuesday evening. This is a very successful project as it teaches year 6 students so much about working as a team, exploring and caring for the environment. They will have all made some new friends too.
Their presentation to the Club was great despite some obvious nerves. Many congratulations to the team of Rotarians who cared for them, Simon Sickerdick, (sadly Lyn was unwell and couldn’t go), Roxanne Rowland, Sue Foster, Peter and Suzann Seals, John and Bev Scarvelis and Lesley Murray. Simon, I thought the booklet you presented to the students was a wonderful touch.
I attended the Reclaim the Night on Friday, November 1st at Edwards Square. It was a shame that only a few people attended this event. Tony Pasin and Adrian Pederick each gave a speech, there were banners and lanterns and those who attended were invited to pick a saying at random, out of a basket - mine was “I protected myself as best I could, and I am proud of my strength” - I know someone I can give that to. Our club cooked a free bbq and had a table set up with information about the “Rotary says No to Domestic Violence”. I must congratulate Jim Cundy and his team. A lot of hard work went into buying the food for the bbq, cooking and serving it, putting up the marquee and setting up the tables. We hope the next event will be better advertised and attended.
Don’t forget that there is no meeting this coming Tuesday night. Instead, it is Wednesday night 6.00 for 6.15 at the RSL and is a joint meeting with Mobilong. It should be a good night.
Though for the week (I forgot last week) - “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Calperum Report
The year 6 students from Murraylands Primary Schools who participated in this year's Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Calperum Environmental Camp reported to the Rotarians, watched by their families, on their experience. This is part of the Club's Rotary Assisting Local Youth program and in the second year of this new format. The Camp ran from Monday till Thursday in the first week of the recent school holidays. It allows the students to make new friends, learn some new life skills and about the environment. Please check out our sponsors and support them as they are crucial to the event. Rotary runs programs for locals and internationally and is based on service to communities, peace and goodwill. Learn more about what we do on our facebook page and website. John Scarvelis
Reclaim The Night
Friday evening was an opportunity for Rotarians to be part of the Council sponsored "Reclaim The Night Event".
Rotarians provided a free BBQ for the small crowd who assembled to hear messages from our two local Polititians, Adrian Pederick and Tony Pasin who gave freely of their time.
Sadly the message did not get out to the community as the response was quite poor considering the important story being told.

Safari Park Shelter
Rotary continues to develop the new Mallee native animals reserve at the Monarto Safari Park. Having completed the fencing (well almost) we have now begun the information shelter. This will be a place for visitors to sit whilst observing and hearing about native australian fauna. Rob Walters, Sam Cozens, Jim Cundy and Mark Smith (from ZOOSSA, not in photo) have erected the 7 posts that will support the structure.
