Mayor Brenton Lewis launched the Murray Bridge Trailhead at Sturt Reserve this morning. The trails incorporate cycling, walking, history, and cultural aspects with the trailhead being the focal point. The project is one of many to come to highlight the Riverfront as Murray Bridge's most important asset. The trails link with Rocky Gully, Kinchina Conservation Park and the Heysen Trail. Some of this work has been in the pipeline for over 20 years and its great to see it come to fruition. The Rotary Club of Mobilong provided breakfast for those attending.
Murray Bridge High School
Representing and honouring the Ngarrindjeri culture – as a significant part of our school community – has been critical to our rebranding project. From when we first began this project back in July 2020 our consultation and design team worked closely with our Aboriginal staff leaders (Aunty Cheryl and Greg Carter), ran workshops with our Aboriginal students and met with an Aboriginal parent focus group. Further, our rebrand elements have just been endorsed by a local Ngarrindjeri elders group.
We spent a lot of time listening to our Ngarrindjeri stakeholders, and what we heard during this time, was that both students and parents had noticed a positive shift in the relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students, and that the school’s investment in acknowledging and respecting Ngarrindjeri culture had played a major part in this. Positively, all students wanted to see the Ngarrindjeri culture strongly represented in the rebrand, and with this in mind, our design team created core elements to support this.
The overarching brand icon includes a swan (and iconic Ngarrindjeri totem), the Murray River (an environment with deep connection to their culture) and lightened the prominent blue colour just slightly to create a closer match to the Ngarrindjeri flag colour.
We have also ensured that the Ngarrindjeri motto translation remains (Palai Namawi), plus added a Ngarrindjeri-inspired graphic element which can be used on uniforms, signage, digital formats and in publications.
We’ve loved seeing these elements come to life, and the excitement from our whole community!
