Meeting Report 3566 - ROMAC

ROMAC Rotary Oceanic Medical Aid for Children was the focus for the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge this week presented by D'Arcy Walsh Central Region Chair for ROMAC. D'Arcy is from the Rotary Club of Adelaide, has spent 9 years in the Rotary Club of Davao in the Southern Philipines and has worked on Rotary ROMAC projects throughout the Pacific Islands. ROMAC was started by Rotary Australia & NZ in 1988 and over 500 children have recieved treatment since that time. Rotary works with specialist doctors and surgeons on a volunteer basis to provide hope when there is little and the results are amazing. The work in our District is mainly done at the Adelaide Womens and Childrens Hospital and costs an average of Aus$35,000, We have 3-4 patients average each year usually from September to March in our District 2010. The patients and their carer usually spend 2 to 5 weeks in Australia for their treatment. Follow the stories on romac.org.au
"From Jordan Phillips, our AGFR John Hood Memorial Scholarship recipient, currently in the USA working as an intern greenkeeper.
Hi Greg.

Just thought I would touch base with you and let you know how it’s all going so far.

It’s been a weird start to all this with covid-19 still very active over here but I have been working flat out on a 10 days on 2 days off roster.

Due to covid the John Deere classic tournament had to be moved from another course to muirfield, which is now being run the week before the Memorial Tournament. Nothing like this has ever been done on this scale and it’s going to be great to be apart of it in the coming weeks. I’m learning a lot of new things that I’m going to be able to bring home with me and hopefully help me progress my career in this industry.

After the tournaments I am doing an intern swap for a week where they will Send me to Oakmont Country Club for a week to see how they do things at their course.

I'm having a really good time and so grateful for this opportunity that Rotary has given me.

Hope all is well back home.

Thanks Jordan "
