Meeting Report 3566 - ROMACROMAC Rotary Oceanic Medical Aid for Children was the focus for the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge this week presented by D'Arcy Walsh Central Region Chair for ROMAC. D'Arcy is from the Rotary Club of Adelaide, has spent 9 years in the Rotary Club of Davao in the Southern Philipines and has worked on Rotary ROMAC projects throughout the Pacific Islands. ROMAC was started by Rotary Australia & NZ in 1988 and over 500 children have recieved treatment since that time. Rotary works with specialist doctors and surgeons on a volunteer basis to provide hope when there is little and the results are amazing. The work in our District is mainly done at the Adelaide Womens and Childrens Hospital and costs an average of Aus$35,000, We have 3-4 patients average each year usually from September to March in our District 2010. The patients and their carer usually spend 2 to 5 weeks in Australia for their treatment. Follow the stories on romac.org.au |
