Last Monday night Rotarians Sam and Elizabeth Cozens, Roxanne Rowland, Merilyn and I attended the year twelve graduation at the Murray Bridge High School.
Prior to the presentation we were entertained by the year twelve band for the last time.
The winners of the Rotary Club awards are, Yulee Chil Rotary Leadership Award;
Ali Erkoc, Service to School and Community; Jasmine Catanzarti, Commitment to Studies.
Wednesday night there was a good attendance for the Pizza and Putt Putt night at Avoca Dell with a great night of fun and fellowship and competition between Mobilong, Tailem Bend and Murray Bridge Clubs. Unfortunately, we were not successful in winning the shield, soundly beaten by Mobilong with Tailem Bend in third place.
We raised enough money to purchase one Shelter Box, along with our generous park hosts who donated a further $1,000 to enable the purchase of a total two Shelter boxes, what a great donation! We’ll try again next year.
Thanks go to Peter Jarvis for co-ordinating the event along with anyone who helped to make the night a success.
The upcoming AGM is this week with nearly half the year already gone, how time flies.
That’s it, see you Tuesday night.

Shelterbox & Putt Putt

Three Murraylands Rotary Clubs Murray Bridge, Mobilong, and Tailem Bend joined together in a game of Putt putt golf at the Avoca Dell Caravan Park at Eastside Murray Bridge resulting in raising money for two Shelter Boxes valued at $2,000 for overseas disaster use with thanks to a $1000 donation from Laurence and Kim Crack the Park's owners. It was a great fun night in perfect spring weather the frogs were croacking in the bilabong and the birds were singing in between the laughter of the Rotarians and their partners. The Rotary Club of Mobilong won the shield and Rotary Action enabled more support for those less fortunate than ourselves. Also a special thanks to Jedz Pizza of Murray Bridge for the donation of Pizza. John Scarvelis

Place of Courage

The Rock!!!!!! A place of Courage is an art piece installed at Sturt Reserve Murray Bridge last Friday. Linda Martin Chair Murraylands Violence against Women & Children, Pauline Walker Ngarrindjeri, Mayor Wayne Thorley, Councillor Karen Eckermann, Heather Oxingham Director of Spirit of Women and other emotional speakers made valuable contributions to highlighting the level of DV in the Australian community and the need to call it out and create discussions as a way to address it. As an example Linda highlighted the awareness of first nations trauma endured. Senator The Hon Marielle Smith attended the event. Rotary has a call to action "Break the Silence and End the Violence". Murray Bridge and Mobilong Rotary Clubs were represented and Mobilong provided BBQ. Bridge Arts contributed a Butterfly free art piece, Murray Bridge Soroptomists Doves for peace from the Haven, Murray Bridge High School a butterfly wool project. Doves are a Spirit of Women symbol to start a conversation. Thoughts and Feelings an exhibition at the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery commences today with 16 days of activism to highlight the level of DV. The Murraylands Multicultural Network and Australian Migrant Resource Centre in Murray Bridge provided some cultural sweet treats. Some 160 people attended the event at the Station showing the level of concern. The artwork is situated in a peaceful setting on the riverfront with a seat to sit and contemplate. Appropriately there was a beautiful egret along side on a visit later in the afternoon. The launch was held at The Station in lieu of the inclement weather. Rotary District Governor Dave Harmon announced today that Rotary will lead peaceful walks in the CBD's of Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin, and Canberra with activities planned in Perth, Launceston, Melbourne, Gold Coast and many regional towns and cities during the 16 days of Activism. Our National Day of Action is Friday 1st December. This Artpiece is the first installed for DV in the series. John Scarvelis

Supporting DV Walk in Adelaide

Members of Murray Bridge and Mobilong Rotary joined with several thousand others as they helped to raise awareness of Domestic Violence in its many forms.
The walk began at Victoria Square and concluded at the Pioneer Womens Gardens in Adelaide.

Calperum Leadership Camp

The year 6 students from Murraylands Primary Schools who went on the Rotary Environmental Calperum Camp reported to the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge members how they enjoyed the Camp. There were two students from each school so most of them did not know each other which is part of the plan. Ten students went with 9 Rotarians and some of the comments were priceless. They learnt from Aboriginal artist Daniel Giles that art should be reflective of themselves and their identity. Learn who you are and how to deal with others. Valuable life skills and leadership. How to be a better person, an amazing experience they said. They even enjoyed helping with chores. Parents said their were notable changes since the camp particularly with confidence. The parents enjoyed the daily facebook reports from the camp making them feel more at ease. The Camp was funded by a Rotary District Grant and sponsorships from Flinders University, GIA Insurance, Community Brocker Network, Impress Printing Murray Bridge, Bowhill Engineering, and BCF. This is part of the Rotary Assisting Local Youth Program of the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge and can lead to other connecting projects for students as they go in to High School like RYLA, RYPEN, One and All Tall Ships Project, Youth Exchange and the Rotary Science Experience.
