At Tuesday’s meeting it was lovely to meet Penny Heighes, and an honour to induct her as a member of our Club. Penny is an interesting person with a good sense of humour. I look forward to getting to know her better. It would be great if we can attract more members to our Club, so I urge you all to look around and see if you can find some potential Rotarians. Another Rotary Information Night will be planned for next year. I found last week’s speaker Sergeant David Brown was very interesting. His suggestions on how to spot scams and keep our email accounts safe were great. Judging by the questions after his presentation I’m sure we have a better understanding of how to protect security. The High School Farm Open Day was a great success. The funds raised are to go towards building a kitchen at the farm. I am sure Roxanne will be able to tell us how much was raised. The High School Senior and Co-Curricular Music Showcase is coming up of Wednesday September 22nd. Simon Sickerdick will be organising a table of Rotarians for this. It will be well worth going to see and listen to this. And talking about music, we have four applicants for the Music Bursary and Simon, myself and Choo-Lee Long will be starting interviews soon. All four applicants are talented musicians so we are going to have a hard job choosing the successful applicant. Thought for the week: Luciano Pavarotti: "I think a life in music is a life beautifully spent and this is what I have devoted my life to." - Illustrates the diversity of passion that drives Rotary members in their service and commitment to making the world a better place. |
