The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge gathers at the Bridgeport Hotel 2 Bridge St, Murray Bridge on Tuesday evenings. Fellowship from 6.00pm with Dinner starting at 6.15pm. Apologies or guests to be notified to Jacquie Best by 12pm Monday. 0409 377 343
Let me start this week’s report with thoughtful messages to club members who are ill in hospital or at home, or recovering from surgery – ‘May you get well soon and experience the joys of health once more – wishing all members and/or their partners, a swift journey to recovery, where each day brings you closer to your vibrant self.’ Please let a member know if there are any ways in which we can assist.
‘Dedication is contagious in Rotary – when you give your best to a Rotary role/task, you inspire others to do the same. Your passion for Service sets the tone for our Club’s success.’ This has been evident in the past week when so many Rotarians have been involved in a huge range of activities
Tuesday - We started the week with Committee Meetings at last Tuesday’s gathering. It was great to see a prospective new member (Jeff Smith) join us, not afraid to join in with planning ideas and opportunities for Service in the future. Thanks to Directors for keeping groups on task and have meaningful discussions for and about current and future projects. I enjoy reading the Director’s reports – Jim’s arriving in my email box before I arrived home – where I can get a detailed feel for what has been discussed and am able to be the voice within the local community on these plans/ideas when approached.
Wednesday – the art work arrived at the Regional Art Gallery for the Rotary Art Show – a great opportunity for us to collaborate with RC Mobilong for this event – I can’t wait for the opening on Sunday 26th April, to see all the amazing work on display. Thanks to all on the Rotary Art Show Committee for your commitment to this annual event.
Thursday – and our thoughts changed from the Arts to Sport and Recreation with our Annual Ambrose Golf Day for Rotary Health – ‘Lift the Lid on Mental Health’ – another of our successful events due to the dedication of the organising teams. Thanks to Jenny, Rob and Kevin for the overall organisation of the day. Thanks to Jim and his team who cooked breakfast and lunch foods for all and to Lyn for her organisation of the kitchen brigade getting lunch out on time and all the clean-up duties. The assembly of the Tossed Salad was anything but tossed and looked amazing throughout the service – something to be adopted in the future and the Coleslaw and dressing were positively commented on by guests throughout the lunch. Thanks to all members who attended on the day and helped out in so many ways. While the discussions during the quieter times did not solve the problems of the world, it did give members the opportunity to chat in an informal setting about a range of Rotary and non-Rotary issues. We will await Jenny’s full report on the financial success of the day and our support for Rotary Health
Thursday - Our Mannum Community College student returned from his journey aboard the One and AllSailing Challenge and has amazing tales to tell of his adventures. We will have to wait until he attends one of our weekly gatherings to hear more about it. Thanks to Lyn and Simon for looking after him while on land.
Other items of note include:
Secretary Julieanne has been busy securing seats for club members to attend our social event – Murray Bridge Cabaret Band Festival at the Bridges Event Centre on Saturday 30th May commencing at 6-30pm. There are 4 bands appearing this year so please get your tickets early to ensure your seats.
Our grant writer – Roger – has been successful in gaining us a $5000 Community Grant from the Rural City of Murray Bridge for meals and biscuits for the Farming Families at the Rotary Pioneer Adventure Day. Thanks, Roger for your efforts – now the hard work starts with just 13 days until the event to get all the meals prepared and packed
In conjunction with Angela Thorley of the RC Tailem Bend, we will be having a Biscuit-Baking-day on Thursday 30th April at the Murray Bridge Showgrounds Kitchen. The packs of home-made biscuits will supplement the meals being packaged for Pantry Packs to be given to farming families who attend on the day. I have been trialling suitable recipes in fitting with the Pioneer Village at Old Tailem Town and will be shopping for the ingredients. How many packets of biscuits should we make? There will be a roster out soon with times for Rotarians to sign up.
