It is always a pleasure when we as a club can support one of our local youths. This week Rotarians Jenny A as Rotary and Jenny P as RALY presented $1000 to Olivia White, this years Murray Bridge High School music bursary. I am sure this will help Olivia further her music career.
I was also pleased with last Tuesday meeting at Head Space. I was somewhat surprised at what level of assistance Head Space provide in our community and there appears to an opening for our Club to offer further assistance in the future. Well done to Rotarian Lyn for organising this night.
Next Sunday is a busy time with five members travelling to Adelaide and assisted with the DIK working bee, calendar sales in the Marketplace and Skate Park BBQ. I am sure there will be stories to be told.
Looking at the Community agenda, I am pleased that we could have some more opportunities to help out at the Monarto Safari Park over the coming months.
A reminder that when you are organising your holidays for next year, please keep in mind the Swap Meet is to be held on Sunday 19th February and as you would have found out over the past years, we need all hands-on deck.
See you all on Tuesday night.

What mental health is
Mental health is a state of wellbeing that enables you to deal with what life throws at you.
It is about feeling resilient, enjoying life and being able to connect with others.
Good mental health helps you:
cope with the normal stresses of life
be productive both at work and in your private life
relate well to other people
contribute to your community.
Why mental health matters
Almost half of all Australians adults – 7.3 million people – will face mental ill-health at some point.
It can affect anyone at any stage of life, and can have a negative effect not just on your own life, but also on the people around you, your community and Australia as a whole.
People living with mental ill-health are at higher risk of:
We are working to build a better mental health system that improves the lives of people with, or at risk of, mental illness.

Mental Health was the focus of the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge visit to the new HEADSPACE facility in 10 Second St Murray Bridge. Headspace has introduced a new program of SELF REFERAL for young people suffering from anxiety and mental health issues to encourage early treatment and support. This avoids long waiting lists and encourages early intervention which is crucial. Headspace works with 12 to 25 year olds supporting them to prepare resumes and find work thru the Department of Social Services and access health and GP services. The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge contributed $10,000 towards Drug and alcohol programs in 2018. We have been a strong supporter of youth in this area since 2002 when we initiated a Drug Proofing Your Kids Program as part of the Rotary Assisting Local Youth programs and then supported the Council to develop Headspace from Federal Government funding. Suzanne Fuzzard is the qualified Mental Health Occupational Therapist who works in a managerial role for Headspace, supporting, supervising and providing Clinical Governance to the two Headspace sites under her leadership. She outlined the activities and has worked for the Murray Mallee GP Network and within the Headspace program for 10 years and has just been awarded a Churchill Fellowship. Rotarians wore hats for Mental Health and donated to the Rotary International Mental Health Foundation funds. Headspace is considered to be a leader in mental health programs in Australia.John Scarvelis

End Polio Now
In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.
Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr
Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.
It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.
If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
What is polio?
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
