I was honoured to have the task of laying the wreath at this year’s ANZAC dawn service. I thought the attendance was well above what the RSL would have expected and the gathering at the RSL was also well attended.
I would like to thank Jenny and her team for making the Ambrose golf day such a huge success. To all the members who helped during the day also deserves a big thank you. When I was talking to the many participants, they all were happy the day was organised, and many will be back next year. As always, I am sure the organising committee will be looking at making next year’s event a greater event.
I would like to bring to your attention that the applications for RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is now open. This is available to a person of the age of 18-25 years and will be held on 23rd-29 September with a cost of $985 per participant. If you have any thought of who would fit these criteria, please let us know.
I would also like to congratulate Lisa and Dave on their big day last weekend.

Australian Rotary Health is a major program of Rotary Clubs in Australia that provides funding for research in areas that do not readily attract funding. Some 33million $ has been allocated since the program commenced in 1981, all of which was spent in Australia. In 2023 $1,905,842 has been allocated to Research, Scholarships, Education, and Awareness. The main focus is on Mental Health research of 0 to 12 year olds for up to 3 years per project. Other areas funded include Mental Health of young Australians, Post Doctoral Fellowships, Indigenous Health Scholarships, Rural Medical Scholarships, PhD Scholarships, and Rural Nursing Scholarships. Rotarian John Campbell from the Adelaide Light Club is Chair of the Program in District 9510 and was our after dinner speaker last night at the Murray Bridge Golf Club. The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge has been a strong supporter of the program and had donated $46,000 to the program over the years with $4,500 over the past two years. Nina Hartman who works at the Meninge Hospital is a recipient of the Indigenous Health Scholarship and will be graduating next year. The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Golf Tournament tomorrow in Murray Bridge has a full number of golfers participating and the proceeds will be going to Australian Rotary Health. Rotary's Lift the Lid Promotion highlights the number of Australians that are affected by this disease. One in five directly affected with over 80% of the population affected indirectly. The highest proportion is in the birth to 12 year old group. John Scarvelis
ShelterBox Update
Dear ROTARY CLUB OF MURRAY BRIDGE
I am writing to you to thank your Club for your recent generous donation to ShelterBox. It is the kindness and thoughtfulness of people like you who help us do our job in bringing some hope and returning dignity to many others around the world who have lost their homes and most possessions through disaster or conflict.
As you know ShelterBox is Rotary’s partner in disaster relief, a position we’ve held proudly for the last 11 years. This partnership has enabled us to be first responders, working with Rotary and our in country partner agencies, assisting those deprived of their homes by natural and man-made disasters. In my capacity as Chair of ShelterBox Australia I have the honour to oversight the operations of our organisation here in Australia, and to participate in collaboration with our other Affiliate ShelterBox organisations around the globe. I see first hand the work of our operations centre in the UK, and the deployments of our volunteers when a response is required. I also see the partnership with Rotary in action with many Rotarians in affected countries assisting in the delivery and distribution of our aid.
We continue to respond with distributions in both Türkiye and Syria post the recent earthquake, while also continuing our work in Ukraine, Pakistan, and Yemen.
On behalf of ShelterBox and on behalf of the recipients who will benefit from your donation, I offer my heartfelt thanks. We look forward to your continued support as part of our global ShelterBox family.
Yours Sincerely
Rob
