MEETING REPORT

Another Rotary Partnership Fencing and Blaze-aid with Habitat for Humanity and volunteers. Past District Governor Dick Cuttle outlined for our members after dinner this week this project to support farmers still suffering from the effects of last years bush fires. The Rotary Club of Onkapariga works with Adelaide hills farmers and passes on fencing skills to Blaze-aid volunteers to renew fences burnt in last years bush fires. They need more volunteers and funding to continue. Google Onkaparinga Rotary for details on how you can help. They are active about two days a week on this project. You don't have to be a Rotarian to participate.

"Safari 2021" - Report

The Rotary "Safari" held this last weekend was attended by 18 members, partners and friends.
Venue was the Riverbend Caravan Park at Renmark with many being ble to camp right on the river in beautiful surroundings.
It was great to have the company of Bronwyn and Andrew Heard from Mobilong along with Andrew and Bozena Mills. Andrew is a past member of our club. In addition, on Sunday afternoon our past president Graham & Judith Coventry were able to join us for happy hour and dinnner.
Each evening we gathered around the firepit on the river bank. One of the photos shows Ron's contribution to the fire.
Whilst there were no formal programme, many of us gathered for lunch at the Riverland Wine Centre at Lyrup for lunch. This was a recommendation from Simon and it did not dissapoint.
Saturday evening was again the firepit but with quizmaster Gordon conducting a fiercly competitive quiz. Happy hour tended to morph into dinner so there was plenty of food to bring home. Browyn prepared a fabulous jam roly poly to share with us all. Normally cooked over the coal, it was this time cooked over the gas. Well done Bronwyn. Thanks to Sue Frazer who provided a celebration cake for one of our members forthcoming birthday.
Sunday was a time for fellowship followed by a visit to the Woolshed Brewery for a relaxing time overlooking the river.
Happy Hours (plural) were a great time for members to interact and enjoy each others company with the consensus being "lets do it again next year".

Thanks to all who were part of the getaway, you made it a great event.

YOUTH ART EXHIBITION

Some more of the deep and meaningful art currently on display at the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery in Second Street. The artists are primary school secondary and tertiary students from around Adelaide and the Murraylands. The ideas take us back to to the core of what makes us human, caring, compassionate, and social and stress the imperative to overcome the intolerances which divide us and to nurture the virtuous qualities that unite us. Concomitant with this is the recognition of the need to to eliminate discrimination and racism and to build respect. inclusivity and equality. Curated by Andrew Hill AM with organisers the Australian Migrant Resource Centre and the Bob Hawke Prime Minister Centre Uni SA Adelaide.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.

Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
