Wimpy's Wise Words

                                                                                                                           PRESIDENTS ROUND UP         31st July 2020
I would like to bring you all up to date regarding Past President Lesley and Steve. I was able to speak to Steve on Sunday and at this stage Lesley could be released  from the RAH  on Monday .We all wish Lesley a speedy recovery and as I said earlier should she require any assistance I am sure some of our Rotary family would only be too happy to help.
I would like to thank Rob Walters for all his work in collecting the equipment required for last week’s meeting and VP Darryl for convening the meeting. I hope you read my weekly round up and taken notice of the links available regarding the Rationalisation Pilot. I like many are not sure where this will eventually lead us, but I feel if we all take in the information given to us it will make the vote in September easier for us to understand. I have had some reports back from last Tuesday’s meeting in regard to the room area and for that I would like to apologise for when I went in to check the area it seemed to be suitable for the numbers I was expecting.
Over the coming weeks I will be asking members attending our meetings to help fill out a list of Tradies, Friends etc to which we could possibly try and get them involved in Rotary at some level.
To Sam hope you also have a speedy recovery from your bout of Covid.
I received a call from the golf club to inform us that we will be unable to use the club due to both chefs having Covid.
I have booked us in at the Vietnam restaurant so once again pay of the menu and enjoy.  I am sure some of our partners may like to eat out this Tuesday, so please ask if they would like to attend.

It gives me great pleasure to send you your 2022 AllKids sponsor child update for Narak, Naro and Sreyka.

I am pleased to report that the covid pandemic is now very quiet in Cambodia and AllKids currently have 1,255 children attending programs across our four centres and the children are also attending normal classes at public school.

We still have many young children that do not have sponsors so if you know someone that may be interested or you would like to sponsor another child, please contact me directly and I’ll choose a child who will benefit greatly from your support.

On behalf of Narak, Naro, Sreyka, their parents, and the staff at AllKids, I would love to pass on my very sincere thanks for your very generous support.

Providing one child with education won’t change the world but it will change the world for that child.

 Kindest Regards, Sarun

The Rotary Foundation has raised more than $15 million in relief contributions to aid Ukrainians affected by the war. And Rotary members worldwide have jumped to help in relief efforts as well— donating over $15 million in aid, gathering and sending critical medical supplies, repurposing logistics networks to source housing, and much more.

Object of Rotary

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

End Polio Now

In 1985 Rotary launched PolioPlus to immunize every child in the world against polio. Working with our partners and members of the global health community, together we will end polio.
Through the science of vaccines, Rotary & partners have saved nearly 19 million children from becoming paralyzed by polio. Learn more about our work to End Polio Now and how you can get involved: https://on.rotary.org/3eqtrrr

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years, and we’ve made incredible progress in the fight to rid the world of it forever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eradicate polio from the last two countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free.

If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

What is polio?

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.
