Gidday, we’re currently at Lake Argyle, Australia’s second-largest man-made freshwater reservoir by volume, located about 70 km south of Kununurra in the East Kimberley. Created by the Ord River Dam in 1971 as part of the Ord River Irrigation Scheme, Lake Argyle is enormous. At full capacity, it covers around 1,000 square kilometres—more than 20 times the size of Sydney Harbour—and provides water for agriculture as well as hydroelectric power. It’s also a haven for wildlife, with an estimated 30,000 freshwater crocodiles and an incredible variety of native birds and fish calling the lake and surrounding wetlands home. What an incredible part of Australia!
Tuesdays meeting 11th August: It was good to receive & read through all the minutes from our committee meetings, it appears we have quite a few members away travelling toward warmer weather and we can still maintain business as usual.
Behind the scenes: Last Thursday following the Aged and Carers Expo Roxanne and Sam attended a Council Grant information session that was held in the Murray Bridge Library, with the main purpose of the meeting was to inform Local Community Groups and Organisations about the Rural City of Murray Bridge Smarty-Grants Program for 2026 Grants. Members now is a good time to consider a project you would like to look at with the possibility of applying for a Local Grant through the Council, if you would like further information, please chat with Sam or Roxanne.
Roxanne and Kevin attended the Murray Bridge News Business Breakfast on Wednesday the 12th and were approached by council members with a discussion toward assisting with other Local Service clubs supporting/sponsoring a Rural City Christmas Pageant for 2026. There will be further discussions required along with an information session delivered by Rural City of Murray Bridge.
