Golf "Lifts The Lid"

The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge held its second annual 2 person Ambrose Golf Day at the Murray Bridge Golf Club on Thursday 25th March.
The main aim was to raise funds for “Lift the Lid” mental health research through Australian Rotary Health.  The golf event was also about promoting the game of golf, the camaraderie of playing the game with one’s mates, walking or riding around the golf course, enjoying the fresh air and having some fun.  All of which assists one’s mental health.  We also wished to support the Murray Bridge Golf Club.

Promotional flyers and entry forms were updated, printed and distributed to many Golf Clubs in and around the Murraylands, Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula, Barossa Valley and Port Augusta.  We found the most productive way to promote the tournament was to actually “talk” to potential participants and invite them to play.
A total of 66 golfers from 11 Golf Clubs participated in the event, with a shotgun start at 8.30am.  Some were Rotarians, many were not.  Many of the competitors had never played at the Murray Bridge Golf Club, so, in effect, we were promoting the Golf Club too.
We thank our sponsors for the event:  Drakes’ Murray Bridge, The Rural City of Murray Bridge, Dynacast, Aussie Apricots, Managed Insurance Solutions, Development Answers and Bleasdale.
Over $3000 in sponsorships and prizes were awarded to winners in various categories.
We acknowledge the work done by the Murray Bridge Golf Club Ground staff in their preparation of the course for the event. The golf course was in great shape, helped by an overnight rain event of 11mm which freshened up the fairways and greens considerably.
Players were provided with an Egg & Bacon Roll breakfast and then a more than adequate bbq and salad lunch cooked to perfection by our wonderful Club members.
Winners for the event were Tobias Williams and Chris Hammett, runners up Mark Bolton and Jeff Morgan.
The ladies competition was won by Armani and Asia Marsters.
At the end of the day, players were asked to indicate if they would be willing to play in another event in 2022 and the feedback was very positive.
The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge is pleased to announce that $2,500 will be donated to Australian Rotary Health for the “Lift the Lid on Mental Illness” campaign.
