Today, March 8th, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate women whose courage changes the world, women who continue to inspire us with their resilience. International Women’s Day has, for more than a century, honoured the achievements of women and the ongoing fight for equality. This year’s theme is Give to Gain, focussing on collaboration and empowerment. The key message highlights strength, resilience and breaking barriers, urging support for a more inclusive world.

What a great event on Wednesday morning – attending the Rotary International Women’s Day Breakfast at The Arkaba Hotel in Adelaide. With more than 100 other Rotarians and friends, we heard from Kate Croser, CEO of the SA Film Corporation who is an advocate for gender equality through the use of media – especially through Films. We shared the Breakfast table with members of the RC Campbeltown where fellowship and ideas were exchanged throughout the morning. Rotarian Sandy was lucky enough to score a Raffle Prize. See report below.

Also celebrated on Wednesday, was our local inter-Rotary Club event to raise funds for Shelter Box. This year the choice of challenge was Lawn Bowls at the RSL Greens – also the home of the Rotary Club of Mobilong who hosted this year’s event. Rotary members, partners and friends enjoyed the lawn bowls, followed by a Pizza and delicious desserts made by Rotarian Bronwyn Heard. Thanks to President Ann Marie Kuckel for all the organisation and it’s great to see the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge retained the trophy. Congratulations to Rotarian Sandy – top scorer for the event. Sandy certainly had a great Wednesday.

The annual community event, Ski For Life started with breakfast at Sturt Reserve, cooked and served by members of the Rotary Clubs of Mobilong and Murray Bridge. Each year the group of passionate water skiers, water ski huge distances - this year 456km from Murray Bridge to Renmark in 3 days - to shed some light on mental health and suicide in the hope to prevent the already widespread epidemic and reducing its impact on the ones we love and strangers alike. This year we prepared breakfast for the more than 400 or so people involved in the event. At the time of writing on Sunday afternoon, they had already raised $328,083 - well over their target of $300,000 with a day and a half to go. We wish all teams a great long weekend of skiing, camping along the way and epic fun as they raise the much-needed funds.

Club members spent Saturday at Bunnings presenting another BBQ for community to enjoy. The trade was consistent with great sales and very positive interactions with community who were out to collect all their needs for the activities over the long weekend. Thanks to Sue and Sam for the organisation of the foods, drinks etc and to the Rotarians who spent a day of their long weekend in Service Above Self.

Our gathering this week is back to Tuesday night at the Bridgeport. The topic for this week is to have a very brief Club Assembly to discuss a By-Law change. This will be followed by the scheduled Committee meetings under the direction of Rotary Club Directors.
