Rotary Club Of Murray Bridge Projects

Overview Of Current Projects

The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge is always looking for projects to "Do Good In The World". Rotary International has identified seven areas of focus and these help us to deterrmine the direction of our efforts.
Whether this is on a local or global scale we aim to serve our broader communities and help those in need.

Rotary Says NO to Domestic Violence
Rotarians across our state recognise the scourge of Domestic Violence and Coersive Control and seek to bring this to the forefront of our polititians and those who can make a change.

Our Club has been an active participant taking a role in helping raise awareness.
The "Reclaim The Night" session was another example of our involvement as we supported the organising committee and provided information.

Power Of Music On The Brain
One of our current projects is named "Music For Dementia". This project has been identified as a real need in Australia and our Club has purchased headphone sets which are battery powered and are loaded with music which the recipient has requested or family have identified as appropriate. When the recipient plays the music, it seems to bring back memories to the extent that some people get up and move for the first time in years, speak or communicate with the loved ones or carers.
This project seems to unlock parts of the brain which have lain dorment.

Birthing Kits
Recently members of our Club assembled 200 birthing kits in conjunction with Zonta International (sister service club) & Birthing Kit Foundation Australia.
The vision of Birthing Kit Foundation is "A world in which all women and girls have access to a clean and safe birth"
The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge acknowledges the women in developing countries who do not have access to a safe and clean birthing environment and are proud to have provided these kits helping to provide a safer birth for these mums.

Purchase of Shelter Boxes
Sadly our world is seeing a lot of natural disasters or conflict and this results in the displacement of people from their homes. The following is from the Shelter Box website

"Each disaster is different, and so is every community. We don’t believe that one size fits all, so we make considered assessments to provide the exact support that gives people the hope and the power to transform their own lives.

The emergency aid we supply comes in the form of ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits. Our sturdy green ShelterBoxes contain family-sized tents specially designed to withstand the elements and provide people with temporary shelter until they are able to start the process of rebuilding a home.

Our ShelterKits contain all of the essential tools people need to start repairing and rebuilding homes straight away.

That’s not all. We know that a home is much more than bricks and mortar or tarpaulin and tent pegs. Our kits and boxes contain the items that help transform shelter into a home, like cooking sets, solar lights and activity sets for children".

The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge regularly purchases Shelter Boxes for use around the world. Can you help us help others?

Rotary Recycles

The Rotary Club of Murray Bridge in conjunction wth the Rotary Club of Mobilong have recently begun an awareness campaign promoting recycling across our region.

Visit https://murraybridgerotary.org.au/page/rotary-recycles-home-page for more information.

2024 will see a recycling hub provided at the Murray Bridge Library. Rotary Club of Murray Bridge will collect ring pulls, blister packs and plastic bottle tops from this exciting new facility.

Monarto Safari Park

Members have been working on many environmental projects at the Park over the last few years. Designing and building an aviary to support the critically endangered Mallee Emu-Wren is just one.

During 2024 our Club has been involved in fire proofing buildings and erecting fencing in the new Wild Africa area. In addition our members are now building a dedicated pedestrian shelter in the new area. One of Rotary's area of Focus is the Environment and this fits nicely within the focus area. During 24-25 there are further exciting projects to be undertaken.

Studio Purpose - Support for homeless youth

Studio Purpose in conjunction with AC Care, Rural City of Murray Bridge, Habitat for Humanity and other partners including the two Murray Bridge Rotary Clubs have recently completed the first stage of this project.

Two South Australian Housing Authority units have been converted into four welcoming places for youths at risk of homelessness to live.
Studio Purpose is addressing the lack of safe accommodation for young people at risk of homelessness in the Murray Bridge region. Studio Purpose consist of four self-contained, fully furnished units for short-term rent by youth aged 15 to 21. But it’s about much more than a warm bed and welcoming space. Studio Purpose will also work with youth to provide the practical support required for success focusing on their health and wellbeing, access to education and training, their connection with their local community and their longer-term sustainable housing options.

Rotary was proud to have assisted with the supply of whitegoods and other materials. As of September 2022 it has been announced that 2 additional units will be converted into 4 living units.

2024 has now seen those units completed and we are proud to have supplied white goods to help furnish.
