This is my Rotary Story
How did you make first contact with our club?
As a 24 year old, I joined the Murray Bridge Apex Club and remained a member until forced retirement from the club at age 40. Rotary was a natural progression, and I was invited to join in 1991.
Why do you stay a member?
One of Rotary’s motto’s is “Do Good In The World”. Being part of an organisation which strives to achieve this provides a high level of satisfaction.
What are you passionate about, both broadly and within the club?
As a child, my parents urged me to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. This has stood me in good stead throughout my life and where I see a need, I am keen to help.
How do you engage with the club?
As a member of Rotary for over 34 years, my participation has varied considerably. My early Rotary membership saw me with a business to manage & family to raise which meant less time for Rotary projects. In later years I have been able to commit more time to both our local club and our wider Rotary projects. I have been fortunate to serve in many roles across Apex & Rotary. These organisations have allowed me to develop skills which are of benefit to the wider Rotary movement.
What has been your most exhilarating Rotary experience?
There are three.
What does volunteering mean to you?
I think this quote epitomises the value of volunteering.
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” — Arthur Ashe
