Rotary Disaster Action
Putt Putt Golf at Avoca Dell Caravan Park Eastside Murray Bridge attracted over 60 members and their friends from three local Rotary Clubs, Murray Bridge, Mobilong and Tailem Bend for a fun night of fundraising and fellowship. Two thousand dollars were pledged for the Shelter Box Australia project supporting families in crisis in disaster areas overseas. This will enable purchase of a emergency shelter tent large enough to house a family of ten and enough targeted supplementary including cooking utensils, tarpaulins, tools, blankets, mosquito nets, water filters and accessories equipment to support ten families. This is part of our Rotary Humanitarian Program to take action for peace and goodwill. Shelterbox began in the year 2000 as a Cornish Rotary Club Millenium project with support from Rotarians and their clubs around the world. Shelterbox grew to become an internationally recognised, independent disaster relief organisation. Since 2012 Shelterbox and Rotary have been official Project Partners in disaster relief. Rotary assists financially, helps to make contacts on the ground, planning, evaluation, and logistics. Examples have been the 2016 cyclone in Sri Lanka, 2018 flooding in Bangladesh, to the current crisis in the Philippines, Ukraine, Gaza and Africa. Peter Jarvis from the Rotary Club of Berri has been our District Coordinator. Rotary International aims to create positive, lasting change in communities at home and all over the world. Shelter Box believes everyone deserves a place to call home. It’s a human right and the first step towards recovery after disaster. Shelter is so much more than just a roof overhead. It’s the foundation for life, families and communities. It offers protection from harsh weather, privacy, and helps to preserve dignity. People stay connected and build resilience together. The Vision is no one without shelter after disaster. Shelterbox is an international humanitarian agency the respects and promotes human rights for all, regardless of race , religion, ethnicity, indigeneity, disability, age, displacement, caste, gender, gender identity, sexuality, sexual orientation, poverty, class or socio economic status. Shelterbox is shaped by the four humanitarian principals of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality. John Scarvelis

Safari Park Shelter
Rotary continues to develop the new Mallee native animals reserve at the Monarto Safari Park. Having completed the fencing (well almost) we have now begun the information shelter. This will be a place for visitors to sit whilst observing and hearing about native australian fauna. Rob Walters, Sam Cozens, Jim Cundy and Mark Smith (from ZOOSSA, not in photo) have erected the 7 posts that will support the structure.
